Philo Haven

Perhaps the most interesting family member, Philo Haven homesteaded at Gold Lake.  He was one of the original 49er gold miners.  One of the founding fathers of Downieville, there is a plaque with his name on the main street.  He never married.  When he died, he gave Gold Lake to his favorite niece, Mary.
