Dana - 2001: Letter to Len

Dear Len, and Inger,

Thank you so much for the Goo Boo La Loo shirt. It’s really nice.

How is it going over there. I am having a great time here in Australia. We are staying in a nice house in a place called Sanctuary Cove, but we have to move because the owners of the house are selling it.

I was going to a school called St.Stephens, but now it is the school holidays until February. I might be going to a different school called The Southport School next year because it is a better School than St.Stephens.

I included one of the stories I wrote a few years ago out of spare time.

Journey to Galaxy XV57

One day Dana woke up on a normal sunny Saturday morning.  He went outside to look for something to do after having a nice breakfast of baked beans on toast made by Dad.Afer playing a round a bit with his sister Rachael he found a toy spaceship and toy alien lying in the dirt of his backyard.  He picked up the toy spaceship to examine it.  He decided it was neither a Star Wars   spaceship, nor any one that he had seen before.

Dana turned around to look at the toy alien.  It wasn’t there!  He started to look for it.  It was running away squealing something.  Dana started chasing after it and finally caught it. Then he held the alien up.

“What are you?” he asked.  As Dana was saying this he was thinking that the small alien may be descended from the Borrowers.

It answered in a tiny squeal, saying, “Never mind what I am, just put me down.”

“And why should I do that?” said Dana.

“Because if you don’t I will transform myself as well as my spaceship.”

“Oh no,” said Dana sarcastically, “I’m so scared.”

“Alright than I will,” said the alien.

Boom!!! The Ground shook.  There was a monstrous alien standing in front of Dana, and he was only holding a strand of hair from it.

“I’m sorry,”  Dana whimpered.

“Alright I’ll forgive you this time but next time ...”  Then the tremendous alien vanished.

Dana turned his attention to the spaceship, it had increased hugely in size, making a big dent in his backyard. (And his mum probably wouldn’t believe the story of him seeing a big alien transforming a tiny toy in to a 50 foot long silver flying machine).  Dana walked into the spaceship then to the control room.  To his amazement there were no footprints or fingerprints to be seen.  All he saw was some green gooey stuff on a big red button that had “Gooble Snurf Fadarco” written under it in large bold letters.  Dana thought he better ignore all this stuff and go tell his mother, Caren.  But the door was closed behind him and locked, tightly.  What was he going to do? To him that was a question that could not be answered.

After a few days of being very hungry and looking around the spaceship, Dana decided to push the red button to see what would happen.  He tried it and fell back, knocking himself out until the next day.

Dana woke up and said, “Mom, can I have eggs for breakfast?”  Only then did he notice that he was not in bed.  “Where am I?” he asked.  There was no answer.  He heard this wierd noise in his mind. It sounded like, “Gooble Snurf Fadarco.  Suddenly he sat up and said, “I remember, I was on this wierd spaceship and I pushed a button and somehow I got here.”  Then he thought, “But where is here?”  So he looked out the window, backed away, and screamed.  There were those big aliens that he had seen before but there were hundreds of them now. In every direction there were aliens. But he wasn’t on Earth. Dana panicked and pushed the first button he saw and suddenly was off at the speed of light holding on to a handle that had popped out of the roof.

Where Dana ended up was a mystery. All he knew was that it was extremely hot, which made him hungry. He looked up at the sky and saw that there was no sun, only a big flashlight with an on and off switch instead.  He also figured out that the planet was flat unlike Earth, so he decided to take a walk until he reached the edge of the planet.  He jumped.

Dana fell down and down for ten days, and finally landed with an unpleasant bump. The first thing he saw was a sign that said Wadagel-cudugome tadu-goo Gadaga-lidigic-sadagi Ada-gex Vada-gi Fada-give Sadage-vadagun and underneath it said, translated into English, “Welcome to Galaxi XV57”.
