As everyone collected they’re weekly newsletters after class, they all noticed that they had the finals of the cross country on Tuesday the next week. Everyone loved this except Tim Whiner. He slumped out of his good mood immediately. He new that he couldn’t run for anything, and he hated running, (from experience of the last cross country event).
As Tuesday came closer, everyone started training for the upcoming event. That is, everyone but Tim. He started thinking up ways of how to avoid the cross country.
But the next day, he had an idea that he couldn’t believe he hadn’t thought of before.
“Good Morning Class”, said Mrs. Starling, the English teacher, of Tim’s class.
“Good Morning Mrs. Starling”, said everyone else but Tim, who remarked “Good morning Mrs. (something very rude.)”
“Excuse me Tim.”
“That was extremely rude of you.”
“I could be sending you to the principal’s office for a detention right now”
“Now, everyone else go to page three of your spelling books, while I have a little word with Tim.”
Mrs. Starling dragged Tim aside.
“Any more funny business out of you, and your getting a detention .
“Okay Mrs.(something very rude), I’ll go do my work now.”
“The teacher started going red.”
She looked like she was going to burst.
She simply pointed to the door and said, “Office now, detention Tuesday.”
No one in the class had seen the teacher so mad.
Tim started walking towards the office, very happy with how his plan had gone so far.
As he walked to the office, some members of his class came up to him and he heard a few things like, “Your catching on Tim, your first detention, congratulations”, and “When good nerds go bad.”
Tim thanked god for his luck, and his wits. He didn’t give a darn if he had to go to the office and get a detention, as long as he missed the cross country.
In the office, Tim went up to the principal and told him the story. Oddly, the principal, being a very weird principal, said “Tim, once in a while everyone does something wrong, and I can see reason in why you called her Mrs.(Something very rude).” “No, I didn’t mean that, but what I’m trying to say is that you don’t deserve a detention on Tuesday morning, come to think of it, that’s the cross country.
“But you don’t understand.” I really think I deserve this detention.” “I have been very bad lately, and I feel that it is only right for me to have this punishment, or else I will feel too guilty.
“Well if you say so Tim.”
“I don’t recall you being very bad lately, but I’ll schedule you for a detention on Tuesday morning.”
“Your detention will be in the art room, if that’s O.K with you.”
“Ya that’s fine, Principal Fidget.”
“I’ll be there on Tuesday morning.”
Tim didn’t feel like going back to Mrs. Starling’s classroom. He decided to let her cool down a bit.
So then, Tuesday morning came, and Tim just laughed at the other kids who disliked the cross country, and had to do it.
He went straight to the art room. An adult that he had never seen before, was waiting for him in the classroom.
He said, “I’ve been waiting for you Tim, your ten minutes late.” He said this in a very deep, low, and serious voice.
’’I am here to give you a punishment and any misbehaviour and I will double your time with me.’’
”You will walk out of this room learning a valuable lesson, which is to never end up having a detention with me again.”
Tim was getting kind of freaked out. He didn’t expect a harsh teacher, and he had no idea who this guy was.
“I will now test you on some of your intellectual skills, because you come here to learn as well.”
“What is the square route of 5067.” I will give you ten seconds to figure it out.” “Ten, nine, eight, seven…
Tim had no idea what the answer to this was. What did this guy think he was, a genius.
“Four, three, two, one, zero, so what is the answer, come on quick, your times up.
“Um sir, I don’t really know.”
“What do you mean, you don’t know. “I want you to write on the board one hundred times, I will practice my math.”
Tim was about to reject to this, but this guy didn’t seem like the sort of guy that you should mess with. So he started doing it, and while doing so, the man went outside. Just after he finished, the man came back in and Tim noticed that there was something sticking out of his pocket that was long and thin, and had a very flexible end to it.
Tim suddenly realized the state of the weather outside. It was pouring rain. There was a strike of lightning that sounded like the crack of a whip. Then Tim looked at the long thing in the man's pocket. Tim suddenly realized. It’s a whip he thought. Tim was starting to think that this guy was mental, and he was scared silly.
Then he heard a different noise. It sounded like a stampede. The footsteps got louder. The door burst open, and wet kids came pouring in to the art room.
Tim asked one of the kids what was happening. He said, “The cross country was canceled because of the weather. We’re just trying to find some shelter.
The detention teacher shoed everyone out, and said, “Go to the cafeteria and get a hot chocolate, and then go and call your parents so you can go home early, I have a detention to teach.”
