But things like that, just bothered me terribly. So drinking, I’ve probably don’t know how I ever started again, but I never did drink very much. I just feel that it’s a terrible thing. My mother wrote this through. He had lost his business, a friend of his had committed suicide who had lost his business, people were desperate for money. These were very bad times . And all of a sudden, he called up somebody at Wrightfield in Dayton. He had been a captain in the first World War™, and he offered his services. He got a job at Wrightfield. He was qualified to do something. This really boosted his morale. They sold the house and moved to Dayton, Ohio, he got an apartment and he went to work every day, and gave him something – I didn’t see him after that.
You didn’t go with him?
No, I had been married then. I married in 1938, so it must’ve been before this that all this happened. I’m losing my dates. The depression must’ve hit before, yes, that’s right.
What did he do in Dayton?
It was working in Wright Field and he had something to do with supplies. He knew about trucks and airplane parts, he had a responsible job, and 1938, because I got married and came out here, and I believe that that was 39 or 40 when Wendell Wilkie , the candidate. My father had been Wilkie‘s captain in the world war, and so he went around with him. My father was a lifelong Democrat, but suddenly he became a Republican, and guilty in his one world caught on, and even I pushed him. I was crazy about the idea. So he got back some of his self-respect.he was on the platform with him when when Wilkie campaign and was introduced.
