Nana Biography

Not only hunters, but five gated horses, but mostly hunters, and I even showed in Madison Square Garden in New York. I want lots and lots of cups and ribbons and prizes, and the house was full of them. I played on a ladies polo team, which was undefeated. so that was a big part of my life, riding horseback. And I’m very much in love with one guy, finally.

The same fellow? 

The same one. There were many in between, but he was the one that was there most often, and one summer I think my mother felt that I was seeing too much of him. She was very smart, and I had my aunt and uncle in California who invited me out to spend the summer in Pasadena. I had never been to California. I had never been any place except the east, when we went away to the beach and things like that.

I was quite protected, really.  I came out on the train to visit my aunt and uncle, and while I was here, we went out to Del Monte, which was then a big hotel.  They were all playing in a golf tournament, and I had been playing a little golf, and I met Don Edwards, who wants to be my first husband, by accident. I had been introduced to him once in Kentucky when he was living with a friend, and I never thought I’d ever see him again, but when we got to Del Monte, I looked at the entrance in the golf tournament, and there was his name.
