Nana Biography

We had been married 10 years, 11 years  — 12 years.

A long time. 

Yeah, 12 years, he had been working in the title company in Palo Alto.

So this is after the war?

Yes. We came back to Palo Alto, and that’s when he came back to work for his father, we had a beautiful house in Palo Alto. We were going to build in Woodside, we had 3 acres, was beautiful. We had five horses, and one weekend he said he had to go. He was president of the young Republicans of California. He said he had to go to a meeting in Sacramento over the weekend. “Do you want to come along?  I said, “well, the kids – we were living in Woodside in a rented house, and I said, I had a full-time made, but I said, “the kids, you know, something is happening.” And I said, “you’re just going to go up Saturday and come back Sunday night”, and he said “yeah “, and I said “all right”.  Well, he took the gal, Kida, with him, she was his secretary, and so he took Kida with him, which I didn’t know.

Was it a thing already?

No, not necessarily. She had been working in the office, and after it all happened, someone in the office told me, if we had realized, we would’ve come and told you. But they were very secretive about it. What she did was, she would say, “oh, my car is broken down, would you drive me home “they were never alone together, except that drive to her house. He never stayed with her, he was never late coming home. The trip to Sacramento, they rode up together, and they were there, and they rode back, and she became a secretary for the young Republicans. That’s why she went along. He came back Sunday night, and he came in, and I said, “oh, hi. “And he said, “I’d like to talk to you.”
