If you got to this page, Congratulations! You are able to access my website. Here is some info to help you navigate.
My website is best viewed on a laptop; second choice is an iPad; it doesn't work very well on a smartphone.
To view a topic, select it from the menus found on the top of every page (including this one).
Home displays the page you first see when accessing my website; click on any of its photos to see more of that person (or dog, as the case may be).
Family, Friends, and Dogs list all individuals on this website, in alphabetic order.
Other Stuff is what its name implies - a grab bag of disparate topics that interest me - and perhaps you as well.
On the far right is the symbol for Search: a magnifying glass. Use it to find any text in my website.
If some text is underlined, it is a link: click on it to go to the link's destination.
If you are using a Macbook with Apple silicon, you can read what is being said on videos by turning on Live Captions (System Settings -> Accessibility -> Live Captions).
Some of the pages contain photographs of hand-written materials, such as letters and diary entries. These can be very difficult, sometimes even impossible to read. As time goes on, I hope to convert them to readable text (and if you know of a tool that can help me with this onerous task, please tell me).
I started using a video camcorder in 1989, to film my children. I kept using it throughout the 90's, especially on our long South Pacific voyage. Unfortunately my camcorder was not a very good one, and the videos I produced and have added to this website are of middling quality. My apologies. Videos, by the way, can be identified by a triangle (►) in the middle. Click on the triangle to start the video.
I created this website primarily for my own amusement. As I type these words, I am 82 years old, and my traveling days are drawing to an end. But I have many thousands of photographs from my younger days, and I wanted a way to enjoy looking at them from an easy chair. Many are of subjects dear to me, but perhaps of less interest to others (my letters home from Andover, for example). For the rest of you, please be tolerant of this whim of mine.
I am currently trying to create videos of my relatives and friends. If you have already been filmed by me, Thank You! If not, Watch Out! I may yet corner you for an interview.
A final request: if you have any photos, videos, stories, etc. that you would like to share - and possibly become part of this website - please let me know: samdedwards@gmail.com
Cheers to all,
Sam
