(Not for the faint hearted): My "lower digestive tract problem", which had begun several years ago, and with more frequency as the years passed, manifested itself in my losing control of the ability to control my poops, to the point where I despaired of ever traveling again. The doctors at Stanford Hospital determined my system was no longer creating an enzyme critical for digestion, and I was passed from specialist to specialist, with many recommendations (gluten- and dairy-free diet, enzyme pills at $500 a month, ...), but nothing seemed to work.
Discouraged by the lack of progress with Stanford Hospital, and getting tired of the drive over highway 17 to Stanford, I switched hospitals to one closer to my home in Scotts Valley: Dignity Health. At the first visit with my new doctor, she recommended that I have installed at the base of my spine a device called a "Sacral Nerve Stimulator", made by the Axonics company. Battery operated (and the battery lasts 10 years!), it sends an electric signal to the nerves that are responsible for regulating my lower digestive tract.
The operation was trivial, and the effect was immediate: the device almost completely cured me! Thank You, Axonics. Thank You, Dr Moleyar. And Boo to you, Stanford Hospital, for wasting my time. And now, along with my cardiac monitor and corneal replacement surgery, you can call me Bionic Man.
