Lough Finn:
On the walk to Glenveagh Castle. It stopped raining just as I began the 4 km walk from the visitor center to the castle, and started just as I arrived (I managed to hitch a ride back on the tourist bus).
Castle entrance:
Built in the 1860s-70s as a romantic highland-style retreat. Also infamous for the Derrygeah Evictions (1861), where many tenants were forced off off the land.
Glenveagh Gardens:
Dunlewey Lough:
Killary Harbour:
Assaranca Waterfall:
The road after the waterfall was a bit of an adventure, with many chutes of water:
In particular, the Owenwee River Waterfalls:
What a great day. The forecast was for rain, but I got lucky. The drive back to my wonderful home was absolutely gorgeous, through beautiful countryside, steep slopes with many waterfalls, and virtually no traffic. Then along the “wild Atlantic Way”, with lots of sheep, homes with huge beautifully maintained lawns right up to the road (that seems to be the style here- I’ve seen several times folks outside their homes, mowing their lawns, which all look in perfect shape.)
