Scotland: Gearrannan Blockhouse Village

Continuing south on rhe western edge of the Isle of Lewis, I next encountered the Gearrannan Blockhouse Village, a traditional village made up of nine blockhouse cottages made with drystone walls and thatched roofs:
The cottages are called blockhouses because they had no chimney, so smoke from the hearth escaped through the roof, blackening the interior.
