July 1, 2025: San Francisco to Quebec City (Repotel Aéroport Hotel)
I first few from San Francisco to Toronto, and then on to Quebec City. I soon learned that I should have chosen a carry-on with wheels instead of my Osprey Farpoint 40: wheels would have been a lot more convenient, especially because I was also carrying a small but heavy backpack. The walk from the Toronto plane to the waiting area for my flight to Quebec City was slow, long, and painful. I really felt my age.
July 2, 2025: Quebec City -> Halifax (HFX Airport Hotel).
Took a bus from the hotel to town, then walked around, admiring the huge hotel (Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac), the St. Lawrence River, and the hundreds and hundreds of tourists, with shorts and kids in tow. Lots of blacks and Sikhs. Not really much to do except take selfies. Best was my ice cream stop: maybe the best ice cream I've ever had. But the weather was just hot enough to be uncomfortable, and I certainly didn’t have the energy to move fast. I hope l begin to feel more energetic in the near future.
During my aborted bus return from the town, for the first time ever I was offered a seat, this time by a rather elderly woman. I must really look old.
Tried out my French for the first time on the Uber driver, and it started to come back. Quebec City is supposedly the most French city in Canada, a lot of signs are only in French, in fact.
When I checked into my flight to Montreal/Halifax, I learned that I could no longer take both my portable backpack and my small day pack on the plane. New rule, as of January, at least for some airlines.
Landed in Montreal late, stuck in line, waiting to get off the runway (there was an earlier thunderstorm that messed things up.). Here’s hoping the flight to Halifax, which has already been delayed a bit, it’s still around when I get to it
Incidentally, Air Canada changed my seat on the flight to Montreal for some reason.
Quebec City: Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. One of the most photographed hotels in the world.
Old Town, Quebec City, hot and crowded. It's saving grace was the excellent ice cream.
At the Halifax airport now, but without my luggage. I went to the baggage guys, and they said my backpack is on the next flight, which is due to arrive in about a half an hour. Funny thing: all the emails I’ve been getting from Air Canada concerning my lost luggage kept saying they’re still looking for it, but I never got an email from them saying they found it. Here's hoping it shows up soon.
