2025 Trip: Western Brook Pond, Newfoundland

Western Brook Pond is a landlocked freshwater fjord.  It was originally an open fjord connected to the sea, but after glaciers retreated, the land rose and cut the fjord off from the ocean.  Over time it filled with rainwater and snowmelt, resulting in one of the purest bodies of water in the world - so low in nutrients that little grows in it.

There was a 3 km walk from the parking lot to the dock.  Very nice flowers along the way:
