In 1976 I took a mountaineering course developed by Lou Whittaker (he led the first American ascent of the North Col of Mount Everest in 1984, and had climbed Mr. Rainer over 500 times). Assisting Lou was a sherpa who at the time was the only person to have climbed Everest twice. Unfortunately the weather prohibited us from summiting.
Lou died March 24, 2024, at the age of 95.
