Oct. 20, 2016. Day two of the tour; hotel whose name I didn't get, near Laguna Colorada, Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia.
A day of many lakes, of various colors, and with various numbers of flamingoes, the road snaking through gorgeous dry plains, past innumerable volcanoes (one or two "semi-active", as evidenced by cloud-like emissions), and many sightings of vicuñas, in groups of two to about a dozen. Lovely, delicate, beautifully colored, they cannot be raised domestically (as can llamas and alpacas), so herdsmen periodically chase them down, shear them, and release them. There fur is supposed to be the finest of the camelids.
Hotel was pretty ordinary, but again very clean and with the smell of fresh paint. However, electricity via a generator for only a few hours in the evening. The night was really cold, so I climbed into my wonderful lightweight sleeping bag, and was snug as a bug.
