Aug 31, 2016. Hostal Yakumama. Cuenca, Ecuador.
Day in the city. Took the bus tour - not great, but then there isn't much great stuff in this city. Took advantage of the free coffee certificate to nail a real Ecuadorian coffee at a posh place on the river. Visited the Museo de las Culturas Aborigenes - lots and lots of old stuff, all the way back to fossils. Bunches of photos of ceramic and stone faces mainly. Then lunch of empanadas with guacamole, and on to the Museo Pumapungo, with a great exhibit of shrunken heads. Yessss!! Nice walk afterward in the almost totally ruined ruins of the Inca city of Tumibamba (the Spanish used all the stones to build their churches, the turkeys). Nice gardens, too. Again, lots of photos - I'm taking over a hundred a day, easy. Sure like Google Photos backing them all up every evening...
Walked back to the Hostal along the river, showered, and am now sitting in their lounge, typing this entry with my wonderful iGo portable keyboard. Thinking of a dinner later at an Indian restaurant.
Spent an hour or so trying to figure out how I'm going to get from here to Lima - it's complicated. The fallback is almost everywhere in Peru has straight shots to Lima. Still, I'd like to see a bunch of stuff: The Cofrdilleras, Kuelap, Sipan, Chan Chan, it all sounds wonderful. But as usual, there is not enough time to do it all, so I have to start trimming my expectations. Wish me luck.
Couldn't find the Indian restaurant, so went back to last night's Colombian one - steak, chips, salad: terrific. Slight rain during dinner - almost the first since I got to Ecuador. But the weather app shows rain for the next ten days - what to do?

Museo Pumapungo - the only time I've ever seen shrunken heads.
