Sep. 28, 2016. Casablanca Hostal, Arequipa, Peru.
First a great breakfast of Rocoto Relleno around the corner; then spent the morning going to two of the recommended tour agencies in town to see if I could arrange a hike up Volcano Chachani, supposedly a very easy way to get to 6000m. But nobody else had signed up, so I left my name to be contacted in case somebody else came along (alone it would cost me about $300).
Then a long afternoon look at the Monasterio de Santa Catalina, and a lazy afternoon and evening in my room, reading and relaxing. Not even hungry enough to go out for dinner. The hotel is right off the main square, in fact I can see it from my balcony. The buildings are all built out of lovely white stone, including the main cathedral, which extends a full side of the square. But not as much action as the Plaza de Armes in Cuzco - of course, how could there be? Still, very pleasant to walk around and about.
