Full day, lots of walking. Along river, 4 cars stopped for me asking if I needed anything. For the last one, I had had enough water to drink, so I asked the little girl in the car to pour water on my head. Finally staggered into Ghost Ranch. Midnight sent me scurrying to the restaurant - made it with 3 minutes to spare. Yum. Camped at campsite with Jack, Midnight & Annimal, Dance with Bears (camped near him previous night at Spring). Lovely warm night.

Up early, hot shower (!), then pig-out breakfast (eggs, hash, green chili, berries, yoghurt, coffee, o.j.: $10). Postcard to Edwards family. Will stay for lunch, then take buses to Santa Fe. Two days ago I was convinced I was going to skip Colorado, but the snow is melting fast, so I may return to Ghost Ranch and continue hiking north via Chama - we’ll see. By the way, Dancing with Bears got his trail name yesterday, thanks to two bear encounters:
#1: bear sticks head in tent.
#2: bear advances without seeing him.
Response in both cases: screaming & shouting.

Ghost Ranch has some great museums, such as the Florence Hawley Ellis Museum of Anthropology...

...But Santa Fe is where the really good museums are, such as The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum...
...The New Mexico Museum of Art...
...The Museum of International Folk Art (my favorite), and The Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian:

El Cuerno (deer antlers) bar. Met Annette (505-929-2060): mgr,; and Rubina (505-681-7194) & Belinda (505-927-2770): lovely ladies that do 100 mile pilgrimages almost every year. Hung around until 8: nice people, lots of hiking questions. Dinner: pint of chocolte ice cream. Annette a real character, with a great laugh. Offered to let me sleep on couch in front, which I readily accepted. Why hike another hour or two and sleep in a ditch by the road? Tomorrow: 14 miles to next Mustang gas station. Tatum is the manager, but she won't be there when I arrive.
