Apr 27, 2018. Livingston to Rio Dulce
Up the river, then Hotel Bruno (remarkably unfriendly place) for the afternoon, evening, and night. Not motivated to do anything or go anywhere. Just read bio of Teddy Roosevelt, and met & talked with yachties Dix & Robert at restaurant next to the Sundog Cafe (really delicious and generous smoothies).
Apr 28, 2018. Rio Dulce to Guatemala City.
Six hour bus ride, hotel near bus station. Friendly guy helped me find an ATM and bus station for my ticket tomorrow to Quetzeltenango. Nice hotel nearby. No dinner. Good WiFi. Watched episodes of Surviving Escobar and Narcos. Slept like a baby.
Apr 29, 2018. Guatemala City to Quetzaltenango.
Five hour bus trip to Xela, arriving mid afternoon. Checked into Celas Maya, greeted then by Erick, on to his home to surprise Nico (he hadn’t told her I was coming). Hugs all around. It’s good to be back “home”. Bruce the dog big and crazy wild. Sandy due to give birth to a baby boy in about two weeks. Gave Erick a bottle of Livingston rum, Nico a necklace, and Sandy some baby clothes and some for her older kids.
