2019: Guatemala

Jan 12, 2019.  Hotel Bella Aurora, Santa Cruz del Quiche, Guatemala 

• Driving once again on 5 mph unpaved, potholed, steep, winding roads, from Comalapa through Jilotepeque, Joyabaj, Zacualpa, Chiché, and finally Santa Cruz del Quiche.  

• Best was the stop at Mixco Viejo, a heavily reconstructed but still impressive series of temples, ball courts, and dwellings built by the Poqomam.  Pedro de Alvarado laid waste to it.
