And he’d say, you don’t know my mother, it would break her heart. That’s what he said. He was really afraid of her.
Afraid of his mother?
I think so. I think he was afraid. She was a dominating woman. I confronted her several times. I sent the children to the Christian science Sunday school when they were little boys, mainly because it was the easiest thing to do and I didn’t think it would hurt them. But one day I read a book that was criticizing the religion and I told her that I might take the kids out of that Sunday school and send them to another one, I was sort of talking like this, and she got really angry. She said, “you cannot confuse the children, Nancy “, She was sort of telling me this and I said, “well, are you so sure that this is right? That your religion is perfect. “ I said, “you know, everybody has a right to his own opinion. “And she said, of course, “but you’ll just confused them “and I realize that it wasn’t worth arguing, ever, about religion with her.
And other things Nancy, too? Or was it just religion?
No, mostly about that. She had found the truth and therefore it was easier just to let her think that it was OK. I don’t exactly know the turn of events, but there’s so many things. I’m leaving out. Maybe we’ll go back to them.
Sure, you know, you don’t have to keep on a tack, if something occurs to you.
I know
You just tell it, for instance, how you felt about her, about all this.
Sure. Yes. Well, I felt that she was very wonderful to me. She always favored me in front of Don. I never felt when we both went to the house that she was happier to see him then she was to see me.
