She was very clever about that. I felt a warmth about them, especially about his father. He was just a wonderful, wonderful guy. And she was wonderful to our little boys. She would call me up and say, "Nancy, next weekend I’d like to have all three of them , and I’ll come and get them." She would come, and of course, she did have a cook and people to care for them, but she would take all three of these little brats and love them. Right now I feel guilty because I have a grandson and I don’t do that. Laugh. It’s a lot of trouble. 

So, life went on with the FBI, and we came back out to California. We were in New York with the FBI. His mother and father came to see us. We were living in an apartment, we had the baby, and we had a dog. His father approached him and said “look. We want to open a branch office in Palo Alto. You can be manager, and not be connected with the San Jose office, and you’ll get a good salary, and nobody will be directing you, and would you please come back, we really would like to have you. “And dad came and talked it over with me, and he said, “I’ve just about made up my mind. What do you think?  “and I was horrified.

Yes. This was the reason you left, so why are you going back? He said, “well, dad needs me. “I think he had two sides to him. He acted differently in front of his mother and father than he did with his friends. He was, not totally honest with his parents.

His parents?

Yes. He just wasn’t totally open and honest with them. At his age, he still did not admit that he drank or smoked or did anything in front of them, and he never would in front of them.
