Isn’t that interesting.
Yes.
They must feel comfortable enough with you.
Yes, that’s nice, I feel, you know, that’s good. That was one thing that came on the faculty, that most of the faculty, their social life was bound up with this one special group. I would say Sheila had friends outside, but the others, it was just that. But we had the other thing too, and I was glad. I was glad to have both. And we mixed a couple of times, and it was the most horrible thing that ever happened.
What happened?
I had some country club people here, a big dinner party, I don’t know, maybe 30 or 40 people, and I had some faculty, and some socials, and it was a lot of drinking before the wine started, and people were drinking and everybody was feeling no pain, and some of the country club people, There were some political arguments that started. And you know, some of the faculty people are pretty outgoing and express themselves, and it was awful. Of the worst experiences was when Joe, who was a great friend of ours, and I had country club people, and one of the country club person said, very simply, “I really don’t think Richard Nixon is so bad, “before he was elected president. Joe Iker stood up and said, “anybody who would make a statement like that is a fool. “
