He had been interested in it from another viewpoint, when he was teaching in Santa Clara. So Allan introduced us, and invited us to dinner together, and that was really a very fast romance. Jon, when I first met him, I thought he was not very good looking, not terribly attractive, and I didn’t like the clothes he wore, particularly, and I thought he was sarcastic (laughs), but I never turned down chances to go out, you know, especially to go to Alan‘s house, so I went off to dinner, and didn’t really have a very good time, but I thought I should pay them back, so I said, what about coming over next week, to my house. “And the day of the date, the Cranston called me up and said they couldn’t come, so I called John up and said, “well, the Cranston aren’t coming, would you like to come to? “And he said, “yes, he would. “So he came and I thought, well, I’ll finish him off. So I put the three little boys at the dinner table with us. (laughs.) that’s a test. I thought it was going to be sort of boring, really. But after dinner, I know we weren’t going out or anything so we sat around and I fixed him a drink, and we sat in the living room, I thought, you know, law professor, what a kind of job. I never been around academic people so I really didn’t think he’d be very interesting, and it turned out he was. Yes.
What was interesting, Nancy?
From the very time we were alone together. The kids are gone to bed, it was 9 PM and we were talking, and all of a sudden, for the first time in a long, long time I was terribly attracted to him. I mean, just bowled over, and I began to act so silly. (laughs.) I didn’t know how to conduct myself. At least I thought I didn’t.
