Oh, they just really did. And my mother, being deaf, really didn’t hear it all. So she wasn’t aware. But then I would come and complain to her, and she would say, “Nancy, I grew up with five brothers and you’ve got to learn to take teasing. “ that didn’t help me any because I couldn’t take it. I was terrible. I would just be dissolved when we were at the table.

Did you feel like she was in on the teasing?

Oh no, I think she was on my team, but I think she was probably right.
