From Kabul we took a bus through the famed Kyber Pass...
...and arrived at Peshawar, known for its gun trade: you can purchase a locally made AK-47 for about $150 (an authentic one costs about $1200). We decided to forego the pleasure of owning an assault rifle, and instead continued on to Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Lahore. I am not a city person, and besides, there really wasn't much of interest for a tourist. But Pakistan has two very interesting archaeological sites: Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro. Mohenjo Daro was one of the world’s first cities and contemporaneous with ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations. Both it and Harappa emerged around 3500 BC (one thousand years earlier then the pyramids of Egypt). I am a sucker for ancient ruins, and these were the oldest I had ever seen, by far.
