Fiji was for being waited on hand and foot; Tonga was for sailing: a week of sailing, in a chartered sailboat out of Vava'u,Tonga:
We stopped at villages every so often. At one, Caren did a bit of shopping:
At another, we were entertained with a song and dance:
followed by a traditional meal (Caren looks a bit apprehensive)
On Sunday, sailing (or any other activity besides going to church) is forbidden. In fact, Tonga is the only country in the world to be officially "closed" on Sunday. It is actually illegal to work, and could be punishable by a large fine or imprisonment. So guess what we did on Sunday? Good guess! We went to church, which was actually a lot of fun. Everybody was nice to us, and the singing was terrific.
Here on the left is the pastor of the local church; on tjhe right is our crew holding his child.
And that's it for Fiji, Tonga, and our honeymoon in the South Pacific. It will be a few years before we return to these island paradises.
