Oct 14, 2015. Ananay Hostal, La Paz, Bolivia.
Started the day off with another sudden onslaught of the runs - I think we're talking at least a half dozen incidents now. I didn't quite make it to the hostel shower (thank goodness I was close by), requiring another shower, a cleaning of the underpants, and a wet wiping of my only pants. I even discovered a little later that I shat all over the seat of the toilet - lucky nobody else was around to discover that lovely surprise. So, anyway, big cleanup operation, and another vow to really really pay attention to the slight twinges in my system that suggest trouble ahead.
Went to the Museo de Metales Preciosos, which had a very impressive collection of pre-Colombian art, including a complete set of gold ornaments worn by somebody special and found intact at Tiwanaku. Also a couple of scary mummies. No photos allowed, and I followed orders.
Then a walking tour of La Paz, provided by the women at a tour outlet next door. At the same time, bought from her a tour of Tiwanaku for tomorrow. Still feeling a little out of it, and hoping I'll get better before I try the scary bike ride.
Took the teleferique up and back - best was a birds-eye view of the huge cemetery, which the teleferique goes right overt. Walked through the so-called Witches Market (Mercado de Hechiceria), and took a few photos of dead baby llamas (decided not to photograph any lllama fetuses). Nothing special there, but the market area in general had a great energy to it, and was a lot more fun to wander through than I was expecting.
Just made the tour bus by 3, and it turns out it was the town tour - I was expecting the tour to the Valle de la Luna, which Lonely Planet kind of pans, but I was disappointed nonetheless.
Dinner of a cheese empanada and banana shake, then a stop at a drugstore for toothpaste, floss, shampoo, diarrhea medicine, sniffles medicine, and cough medicine. Total bill: about $18.
Back to the hostel for another poop, and now to bed and a little reading. Mainly I catch up with Donald's many troubles as reported in the NY Times. Music to my eyes. Also need to find out how to cover the hot spots of Bolivia and northern Chile. It's complicated, to say the least.
