Oct 15, 2016. Ananay Hostal, La Paz, Bolivia.
Waited for the bus to pick me up at the hostel for my day at Tiwanaku. When it was a half hour late, I enquired at the front desk, and discovered I had not yet paid for the tour - all I had done was get the info on the tour, neatly written out on a little form. Oops, my bad. So instead I walked to the Plaza Isabela la Catolica and once more jumped on the double-decker tour bus, this time to the Valle de la Luna. Kind of a disappointment (as the guidebook suggested it might be), but what the hell, there really isn't that much to see in this city. Next, a ride on the southern section of the teleferico, pleasant enough, and finally, a walk back, briefly stopping in to see the not very interesting or organized Museo de Coca, and finally the hostel.
When I returned, I learned that the bike ride down the World's Most Dangerous Road was canceled: there was a protest by the locals which would block the road for the next several days. Luckily, I had now decided to return to La Paz after hitting the salt deserts of the altiplano, so I would have a second try later this month. The plan now is to go by daytime buses to Oruro, Potosi, Uyuni, then a night bus back to La Paz.
