Biking The World's Most Dangerous Road
Biking The World's Most Dangerous Road
Oct 23, 2016. Hostal Ananay, La Paz, Bolivia.
The bike ride was a kick. Six of us, plus our guide (who always led), the vehicle (for carrying us and our bikes, and which was always behind us on the road), the vehicle driver, I'll call him "the photographer" (who periodically rode ahead of us, got off his bike, and then positioned himself to snap our pictures as we rode past him.
The route started at over 15,000 feet, and ended around 4,000 feet, and took a couple of hours of roaring along in high along the World's Most Dangerous Road, never changing gears, breaking with both hands before most turns, watching the gorgeous scenery go by, stopping every few minutes to gather everyone together.
We ended up at a nice hacienda, with a lovely lunch of barbecued meats, quinoa soup, and veggies. And the place even had a swimming pool. My only complaint: sore hands from squeezing the breaks so much, Oh, we also get a t-shirt, and a CD of all the photos taken of us. A great outing.
