Sep. 1, 2016.  Betania Hotel, Zamora, Ecuador.

• Buses to Loja and on to Zamora.  Decided to hit the jungle.  First took a taxi to the Refugio Ecológico Tzanka, where the owner's wife showed me around the rehabilitation center, with boas, monkeys, tortoises, parrots, scarlet macaws, and a "white" crocodile (not very white - another species?  Must check this some day).

• Next checked into the hotel - really nice room, private bath, nudes on the shower doors, as promised by Lonely Planet - then, noticing lots of people wearing yellow Ecuador football jerseys, walked across the street to discover a crowd watching Ecuador v Brazil.  Great fun - the waiter loaned me his nutty hat for awhile, which I returned after Brazil scored the first goal of the game.  Final: Brazil 3, Ecuador 0 😩.
