Sep. 3, 2016. Hotel San Juan, Zumba, Ecuador.
Oh oh. Stuck on the bus to Loja at about the same place as yesterday. 1 1/2 hours so far. 2 hours... Ah, left after about 2 1/2 hours. Passed big slide a short ways up the road. Lucky I was able to walk back to the hotel last night - would have otherwise spent the night in the bus.
Reached Loja by around noon, had lunch in the bus station, then a six hour ride to Zumba, mostly along a windy unpaved road clinging to steep mountainsides, following a river most of the way - again, lots of pictures. Ate dinner at the Zumba bus station, grabbed a taxi to the hotel, paid the man $8, and I am snug as a bug, ready to grab a ranchera for the Peruvian border tomorrow at 8.
The bus passed through Vilcabamba, where Pancho's sister lives, but she isn't back from the States until Sep. 9th, so didn't bother to stop. No real interest for me there anyway - another Expat town.
Been overcast several days in a row now, but rained only during my river trip. Forecast is mixed - it would be nice to get some sun. On the other hand, it's kept the temperature cool - right now it's rather perfect in fact.
My hotel room in Zumba. At least it had a bed.
