Sep 23, 2016. Hostal Soecia II, Cusco, Peru.
Tour day. Took the standard tour of Chinchero > Moray > Salinas. All Spanish tourists, except three Austrian girls on vacation from their volunteer work on the coast. Chinchero was a stop at a tourist shop, but with a nice explanation of where the dyes in the textiles come from. Best yet: a little cuy house, full of guinea pigs.
Moray was a deep amphitheater-like set of concentric terraces, each layer with its own microclimate, according to depth. Maybe the Incas used the terraces as a kind of laboratory to determine the optimal conditions for growing crops? Lots of tourists.
Finally, Salinas: thousands of salt pans fed by a tiny, salty hot spring. The salt is used for cattle licks - and was also for sale in little bags for tourists. Most tourists of the day, but still a lovely sight.
Back by late afternoon, meal at the market, with a juice from the same lady that served us two days ago. In bed by 6, but up till 11 trying to figure out where to go next. Current thinking: Pisac tomorrow, then back to Cuzco for a night bus to Nazca; then Arequipa; bus to Puna; Lake Titicaca; Bolivia...
