24. Monte Alban. Dec 19, 2015. Monte Alban is an enormous pre-Columbian ruin founded around 500 BC by te Zapotec, and predates the Aztecs by a millennium. Its architectural remains—including terraces, pyramids, and canals—extend over some four square miles. The Main Plaza measures approximately 300 meters by 150 meters. It was created through artificial levelling of the mountaintop, being covered in white plaster afterwards. This was one of my favorite archaeological sites in Mexico.

Stones of the Dancers, in the Plaza of the Dancers, next to Building L. They are called The Dancers because of their unorthodox positions.
The stairs leading up to the South Platform. Montr Alban was a great place for scrambling up stairs.
