Nov 28, 2019: Bijagua, Costa Rica (Cabinas Piuri, $45)
Thanksgiving!
Breakfast in town, then a 6 mile drive (despite maps.me’s recommended 45 mile route) to the Parque Nacional Volcán Tenorio. Still overcast, so the pool below the Catarata de Río Celeste was not “fantastically aquamarine”, nor was the waterfall “milky-blue”. Decided to call it quits, rather than continue another kilometer or so for the other colored wonders. Maybe tomorrow will be clear?
Checked into my amazing room, egg-shaped with an enormous mosquito-netted bed and a veranda with two hammocks. Lying on the bed now, gazing out through the open door into the greenery. Definitely worth the extra cost.
Left at 11 for lunch at Hummingbird Cafe, then on to El Centro de Rescate Las Pumas, for a few photos and a little feeding. At least it wasn’t raining (much). Then back to my cool egg room, in the rain, with thunder and lightning to let me know Costa Rica was getting serious.
Tried phoning Erik, Susan, Bruce, Lisa, Margie, Angela and Colleen, but no luck. Never mind: I have Scorsese’s The Irishman to pass the time.
