Jan 30, 2019. Nahui Hostal, Nahuizalco, El Salvador
Visited the Memorial in El Mozote to the 800 villagers massacred by the government in 1981: one person survived (a woman who hid) to tell the tale. This was the largest known massacre in Central America.
Then the worst ever drive to Nahuizalco (the first stop on the Ruta de las Flores) right through the middle of San Salvador, taking several wrong turns and many hours. I better find a better way back when I return the car.
Drank my first Zapotec (in a liquado con leche) at the night market. Delicious, sort of papaya / melon flavored. Dinner of two pupusas (spicy meat and camarón) and a hot chocolate with milk. Night market really just a few tiendas with tourist stuff, alongside the central square. Restaurants very popular, I think with visitors from San Salvador.
