Didn’t mention that the Museo Miraflores, the Jardin Botánico, the Museo Nacional de Arqueologia y Etnologia, and the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural were all closed for various reasons when I tried to visit them. Then today, here in Antigua, after waiting an hour for the tour bus to take me to Volcan Pacaya, I was informed the tour was canceled. (Learned later that the driver forgot to pick me up). Sigh. At least I had a nice quiche for breakfast at Café Contesa and a vegetarian meal at Samsara. Now to try and get my $14 back from the tour agency.
I’ve decided that except for the volcanoes I really don’t like Antigua very much. Not really Guatemalan enough for my taste. So I’m going to concentrate on eating at lots of good restaurants, which Antigua has in abundance.
Signed up for tomorrow morning hike up Volcan Pacaya and then an overnight hike up Volcan Acatenango. Got two sandwiches, pastrami and another Italian meat) at Epicure for tomorrow’s hike (have to leave at 6 AM).
Caren wants me to volunteer to be on the condo board. Not sure what it entails, and it may limit my travel plans, but WTH...
My language teacher Carlos wants to join me when I go to the Nebaj region, which would be nice, but he wants more money than I want to pay.
Dinner at Toku Baru: a not-very-good curry, but lots of it, and a nice change.
