Night bus to Medellín: 14 hours! Then taxi to the nicest looking hotel yet, with a great in-house restaurant:
It’s not hot here like the coastal cities of Santa Marta and Cartagena: Medellín is a mile above sea level.
First things first: Football! Medellín vs Medellin competing in the Copa round (the city has 4 professional teams). Viviana, who works at the hotel, says it’s a very important match. But getting a ticket is tricky. Viviana arranged for me to ride with a guy to near the stadium, where we were met by another guy with a ticket for me (as arranged by Viviana). I gave him the money, and we hustled to the entrance, where I was escorted in by the guy, who then left. So I’m in, but without a ticket! I explained my situation to a couple of officials, who took pity on me, pushed some people around, who made room for me for me, and I’m in a seat!
The stadium is packed:
The game has been going on for some time now, but the real action is in the stands.
First, somebody sets off a blue-powder bomb about fifty feet away - everybody got covered, including me:
Then the folks in the end zone send a blizzard of streamers...
...some of which ends up on the field...
...causing the game to be delayed while the field is cleaned up. Meanwhile, there are problems with some over-excited fans:
And whenever a goal was scored, the place went crazy:
I wish American football was as much fun.
Goodbye until tomorrow!
