Santa Marta: my first time on the coast of Colombia! It sure is hot...
Breakfast at 8, then a walk to downtown and Santa Marta’s Museo Del Oro, which had a grand collection of gold objects from the local Nahuange (200–900 AD) and Tairona (900–1600 AD) cultures. Although smaller than Bogotá’s more famous Museo Del Oro, I thought its pieces were just as lovely - and it was certainly less crowded.
Many of the ceramic pieces were of animals, both real and mythical.
But my favorite pieces were of strange human faces, some with tiny hands.
I also Also dropped in on the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, where Simón Bolivar spent his last days.
And had a nice stroll through the city.
Back to the hostel for a swim in the delightful piscina...
...and early to bed. Tomorrow I begin my four day hike to visit the Ciudad Perdido, “The Lost City”!
