Volcano Arenal last erupted in 1968, when it killed 87 people and buried 3 small villages. Eruptions continued to 2010, giving it the world's "most active volcano" title. Since 2010 Arenal has been dormant.
It is neither legal nor safe to climb Arenal Volcano. So instead I went swimming at nearby Catarata Danta.
