Passed two hikers fleeing Fish Lake & north: mosquitoes really bad.
Stopped at Fish Lake Resort at 3 PM: chocolate milk shake, chili, apple pie with ice cream (burp).
Will now provision for next 50 miles (Crater Lake):
This morning discovered leaky hydro pack (2nd time) - empty by 9. Then discovered water at shelter didn’t work. So: no water for entire day. Hot, too, with trail crossing massive black volcanic rock slides. Made it easily. Good test.
1785: 21 m. Actually, 25, if count 2 miles side trip to Fish Lake Resort, where I pigged out & provisioned. No cooking tonight!

Up & going by 6: cowboy camping sure is faster. Need to find out the trick of setting up my tent rapidly. Decided to toss my “cone” stove: too much trouble setting up, estimating fuel, etc. Will stick with JetBoil, and try to find a mug that fits over it: that’s all I need!
Ended: 1812.5, 27.5 miles (!)
Decisions (today):
Keep eating at Mazama Restaurant (arrived at 2)
Sleep at Mazama camp site
Next step: north to Mackenzie Pass (1989.8). Call Lloyd, get ride to Sisters.
Down to Bend & REI.
Bus to Chemult (sp?), train to Redding, bus to Burney, hitch to Burney Falls.
Hike to Gold Lake for brief appearance, on to Truckee, bus (train?) back to Tiburon
Drive Caren to Gold Lake & return.
Get to Edison Lake with bear barrel (Rachael join me?)
Hike north to Truckee
Train, bus, etc. back to Sisters
Hike to Canada
Crater Lake to Sisters: 1830 > 1989 (MacKenzie Pass): 159 miles, ~ 9 days.
Diamond Lake (food) 1852
Maidu Lake 1870
Summit Lake 1894
Williamette Pass 1914 (better for resupply) or Crescent Lake (8 mi)
Maiden Park ski hut 1918
Elk Lake Resort 1958.3
McKenzie Pass 1989
So: Get to Sisters on July 9, Burney Falls July 11. Need to cover 260 miles (to Truckee) by July 25, or 260 miles in 15 days => 17 miles/day
Large gas cannister (cups):

June 30: 2 (Mazema)
July 1: 2

Boring day(s) - just trees and more trees, lots across the trail. Slept at Crater Lake campground (Mazuma Village).
1830: 18 miles (stopping ~ 2 PM)
July 1, 2014
Walked to rim, ate a bunch, then took “rim trail” on w. side of lake. Up & down, then lots of snow. Got off it and took the rim road a few miles. Then boring hot walk until 1847 ~ 7 PM (wanted to get to Diamond Lake for brunch). 17 miles.

Discovered Diamond Lake alternate is way off, and won’t get to it before dark. Whole day spent slogging through snow patches, losting trail at least a dozen times. Fell twice, once sliding into rocks. Lucky I didn’t hurt myself. No water all day. Camped off trail at 7 PM.
1868, 21 miles (!)
July 3, 2014
Call Lloyd: 541-604-4494
1891, 23 miles (!), not counting 2 mile return to Maidu Lake, and 1 mile round trip to small stream = 26 miles (!).
Mosquitoes amazingly present.

Really tough snow, all day long. Followed one set of footprints most of the day, but got lost and had to use iPhone GPS many times. iPhone finally out of charge by end of day, but red recharger worked like a champ. Got to Williamette Pass ~ 7:30, tried calling various establishments in Crescent Lake, but no luck. Instead, Rod delivered me to Shelter Cove Resort, where I will spend the night either at the resort’s PCT tent area ($8), or Rod’s campsite #10 (free). Haven’t decided yet.
1912.2, 21.2 miles. But really hard snowy ones!
