Anniversary!
Dave & Spot (dog) photo. Runs an outdoor adventure company (I got his first new card). First old guy I’ve seen so far. Also saw a young guy with no poles. Going about twice my speed. Ah Youth. Camping at ~6000’ , near a spring much frequented by cows. Boy my Steripen had better do the job.
Arrival at 1694 m
Total: 17 m
Hey, I am, for the first time since I hurt my hand in Mexico, writing these words with my hurt hand, properly holding the pen. I think all the time holding the hiking pole is helping a lot.
Flowers great again, but different ones. Taking lots of pictures. The walk out of Seiad Valley had the most and most varied wildflowers I’ve ever seen. Today hiked through enormous fields covered with identical tiny plants. And big conifers around the fields. But a lot of up and down.

Arrived at Callahan’s ~ 4 PM (tricky figuring out how to cross Hiway 5). $60 for: free beer, hot shower w/ shampoo, conditioner and soap, laundry w/ soap, dryer, All You Can Eat salad & spaghetti dinner, AYCE pancake breakfast w/ fruit; tent pitched on big beautiful lawn in back. This ends this segment: Dunsmuir > Callahan’s.
Ended at 1725.6, 15 miles, altitude 4000’.

Late getting up after night on lawn behind Callahan’s: a bit noisy with 18 wheelers roaring by on I-5. Could not finish breakfast (3 enormous pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee, fruit). Manager phoned a high school friend to drop by, pick me up, and deliver me to Ashland, where I took the $1 bus on to Medford. Will take 3:30 bus to Klamath Falls, then (after a 4 hour wait) the 10 PM train to S.F. Currently sitting in “Paisan’s” restaurant, trying to complete a huge salad and manicotti meal.
Brandon was a big help at Callahan’s.
Met Dan in Klamath Falls waiting for train to SFO. He says read Psalms 83:18 (Jehovah’s Witness). Also Job 5:19.
