Feb 9, 2019. Posada Del Reyes, San Ignacio, El Salvador. $30.
Bug bites from the night in my musty room decorated with colorful designs and animal figures. Damn I hate when that happens. Shouldn’t be surprised - Moon El Salvador warned me.
Bus to San Ignacio, just a few miles away, then another to Rio Chiquito, and I’m walking to Cerro El Pital, the highest peak in El Salvador (but not really that high - about 8,000 feet). The hike is along a road with a fair number of pickup trucks ferrying (mostly) local tourists the 5 km to the top. Cold enough to wear my Marmot jacket. Pine trees, hydrangeas, fog obscuring the very top. But a nice walk, and good for me - I haven’t hiked in awhile. I sure am wobbly without hiking poles. All told, about 3 hours round trip.
Then another chicken bus back to San Ignacio, and here I am, in a nice hostel with a patio, a big room to myself, and a few hours to kill before din-din. And tomorrow: Honduras!
Big party in town tonight: the Evangelicals have pulled out all the stops. The Catholics could learn a lot from this religion.
