Feb 10, 2019. Hotel Guancascos, Gracias, Honduras ($40).
Chicken buses all the way, with a very easy no-wait, $3 border crossing. Hello Honduras! Looks kinda like El Salvador. Could it be my imagination, or are the people a little friendlier, the girls a little cuter? And nice hotel, if a bit expensive, with gardens and all - looking forward to investigating it and the town tomorrow. Maybe even get my laundry done?
Read The Woman in the Window - couldn’t stop. Turned on to it by a New Yorker article about the author.
Sure wish I didn’t get so many bites from last night - worst yet in quite awhile.
Emailed Jeremy: please look for a van.
Emailed family: can I overlap with you in condo?
Emailed Nancy: I’m coming back
Plan: Gracias > Lago de Yojoa (D&D Brewery) > La Ceiba <> Cayis Cochinos <> Rio Cangrejal <> Utila & Roatán > Belize? > Condo (available Mar 10- 16)
National dish: baleada; Pinchos (Kebabs); Tapado, bando: Garifuna fish soup
Amazing Creature of the Week
Feb 11, 2019. Hotel Guancascos, Gracias, Honduras
Spent all day lazing about the room, with a Brief foray to the fort overlooking the town, into town, some Sarita ice cream, and a very good latte in a raised cafe in the center of the town square.
Dinner at the hotel (nothing special, and kind of expensive).
Still pissed at the flea (?) bites I got at the Posada Del Reyes in San Ignacio - I should have followed the Moon guide’s warning.
