On the ride from Armenia to Cali, I overslept as the bus passed Buga. Fortunately the woman sitting next to me woke me up - I had to walk back about a mile. Its church (Semana Santa at Basílica del Señor de los Milagros) is an enormous rose-colored Neo-Romanesque structure. Inside, above and behind the altar, is the famous statue of “El Señor de los Milagros” – Christ on a silver cross. The figure, discovered by a poor indigenous woman in the 16th century, has been healing the sick and performing miracles ever since.
On my walk back to the bus, I passed some interesting wall art...
...on my way to my beautiful room, with its lovely wall painting, and fine view overlookig the city:
I walked around Cali a bit, admiring the graffiti.
...then a visit to the Museo Arqueológico la Merced (good pre-Hispanic collection)...
...and the Museo Del Oro (I never miss a gold museum!)
The next morning, I had a great breakfast amongst tourists of 4 nationalities. Discussion: coronavirus. It’s a relatively new topic here.
Then on to the Parque Zoológico de Cali, with its fish...
...poison dart frogs...
...primates, a bear, and birds (including a condor, a Cock of the Rock, and some upset flamingos)
