Taxi to Terminal de Transportes de Armenia, then bus to Salento (which passed right by my hostel!), then Jeep (with 14 riders, 3 standing on a rear platform) to the start of the trail into the Valle de Cocora.
Easy, wide gently uphill trail, bordered by stands of palma s de cera (wax palms) in grassy clearings - really a lovely sight.
A volcanic-looking mountain nearby:
This is the tallest palm species in the world - up to 60m - and is Colombia’s national tree.
I couldn’t resist this swing with angel wings:
Back down to Solento, where we enjoyed a day trip from the Finca months ago:
This time I stopped at Café Jesús Martín, with an angélica (espresso half-and-half with condensed milk), and slices of chocolate cake and cheese cake. Mmmm!
Salento really is an exceptionally beautiful town.
Does any city have a more beautiful bank?
Finally back to Cali. A long, full day. Goodbye for now!
