Transportation to La Plata left at 7 AM, passing along a gorgeous cloud-rimmed river valley.
The driver even stopped the minibus twice so I could take photos.
Then immediately into another minibus to Neiva, and another to Villavieja by early evening...
...just in time to take a photo of these serious bikers in front of the town’s welcome sign.
The next morning I arranged with the hotel owner Alexander for a tour of Desierto de la Tatacoa. He quoted $20 for 3 1/2 hours, which sounded like a fair price. Little did I realize the tour would be on the back of his motorcycle.
We are now 1 1/2 hours into the tour, I am on the back of his motorcycle, no helmet, rough road, very uncomfortable, and it is really hot. I may have to bargain down a bit. But the desert formations are amazing. Mostly colored red...
...but also grey...
...and even a bright blue swimming pool fed by a natural spring at Los Hoyos, in the desierto gris.
It turns out the entire tour was on the back of his motorcycle. And I have a big bruise on my ass to prove it. I complained, so he dropped the price to $15.
Also, I am not sure if I’ll get back to Popayán tomorrow, because of the landslide. I may have to go to San Agustín (5 hr) instead. Stay tuned...
