To get from Villavieja to San Agustín, my next destination, I took a Tuk-Tuk to Fortalecillas, an autobus to Neiva, another autobus to Gigante, and a final 5 hour minibus. Pretty scenery on the way, too:
Arriving in San Agustín, I walked straight to Macizo Coffee on the central square for a delicious vegetarian stir-fry and incredible iced coffee with chantilly cream. Then another walk to my lovely hotel...
...and a stroll around town, passing its Welcome sign (does every town in Colombia have one?)...
...and a great looking fruit and vegetable market...
...to its central square, with stone figures at each corner.
Aha - stone figures: A taste of what I will see tomorrow!
I got a haircut, a fruit / watermelon ice / ice cream concoction at the central plaza, and then came across a middle eastern restaurant, Humu Sapiens, where I await my felafel and lemonade. The restaurant has five tables, four of which are occupied by Spanish-speaking Indian-dressed hippies. I love it.
Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, oil prices have plummeted, and the Colombian peso’s value has fallen about 15% compared to the dollar. Too bad I won’t be around much longer to enjoy the cheaper prices.
Back at the hotel, I made reservations to fly out of Pasto to Mexico City in a week, sleep at the airport, then fly on to Puerto Vallarta the next day. I sure hope this works - airports, cities, entire countries are locking down.
I have a a big day tomorrow, so Good Night to all!
